Veggie Supreme Pizza

Why circular pizza gets delivered in square boxes and served in triangle slices :) ... As a food for thought lets have a home made pizza. This is a no fail recipe have tried and tested many a times. In fact it works so well and results into a best crust without even having a pizza stone. Can be prepared in advance and freeze it too.. same results!!!

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 1 Cup all purpose flour (Maida)
  • 1 Packet Active Yeast
  • 1 tsp Sugar 
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Red Chili Flakes (optional)
  • Fresh or dried Rosemary (optional)
  • Fresh or dried Basil (optional) 
  • Oil 1 tbsp 
  • 3/4 Cup Water

Marinara Sauce

  • 5-6 Tomatoes (San Marzano tomatoes from Italy  are the best to use because of their deep red color if unavailable pick Red Ripe Roma tomatoes
  • 2-3 Sliced Garlic Cloves 
  • 1 Big Red Onion 
  • 1 tsp Grated Ginger (Optional but this definitely adds flavor) 
  • Dried Basil 
  • Crushed Black Pepper 
  • Crushed Red Pepper 
  • Olive Oil 2-3 Tbsp 
  • Salt to taste 
  • Balsamic Vinegar (Optional)
  • Red Wine (Optional)

Toppings

  • Onions
  • Button Mushrooms 
  • Peppers (Green, Red or Yellow) of your choice. I picked Green today 
  • 1 Sliced Garlic Clove 
  • Fresh Mozeralla Cheese or grated pizza cheese

Directions

Pizza Dough

  1. In a Luke warm water add 1 packet yeast and sugar. Mix it well and keep it aside. After approx 5 mins you will notice the liquid is milky and frothy 
  2. Take a flour in a bowl, add salt and dried herbs. 
  3. Make a well, add oil mix it well and then add water yeast milky liquid 
  4. Mix it well and you will notice a dough is formed as a very sticky loose dough. And this is what we need
  5. Sprinkle some flour on a flat surface and on your hands and knead this sticky dough. 
  6. Soon a ball is formed 
  7. Put back this ball into a bowl, cover the bowl with a cloth or with a plastic wrap 
  8. Keep the dough for proofing in a warm place. Best is to place it in an oven with light on for 2-3 hours 
  9. After 2-3 hours you will notice dough is almost doubled in size 
  10. Punch the dough to release any excess air 
  11. knead with a light hand again with some flour and pizza dough is ready 

Marinara Sauce

  1. In a stockpan, warm an olive oil 
  2. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, ginger 
  3. Once onion are translucent, add finely chopped tomatoes 
  4. At this step you can add red wine and let it simmer 
  5. Once sauce is in the thick consistency add dried herbs 
  6. Add Salt, Crushed Black and Red Pepper as per your taste
  7. Store it in a airtight glass jar. Sauce will remain good in refrigerator and can be used for  Pizza or Pasta 

Pizza Baking

Method 1 (Top Pizza in the photo)

  1. Method 1 is first on the gas top and then transfer it to the oven
  2. Pre heat the oven
  3. Meanwhile shape a  pizza dough shape as round with the help of your hands. 
  4. Add little olive oil on the pan and put the round shape pizza base on the pan
  5. Let it warm up on slow flame, you will notice a change in color and some bubble. DO NOT Flip. 
  6. At this point, spread good amount of Marinara Sauce 
  7. Spread Veggies - Sliced onions, mushrooms, peppers, olives, corn or of your choice 
  8. Sprinkle some salt and pepper and sliced garlic 
  9. Finally top up some pieces of mozzarella cheese 
  10. Put this in the oven at 350 Degree for around 20-25 mins.

Method 2 (Bottom one in the photo)

  1. Ideally invest on a pizza stone, warm the pizza stone in the oven and then bake pizza on pizza stone. This will give a very nice pizza crust 
  2. Alternatively for the same results take an oven safe dish. I took my baking tray
  3. Sprinkle a spoon full of semolina (Suzzi) 
  4. Put a pizza base on the bed of Semolina 
  5. Spread good amount of Marinara Sauce
  6. Spread Veggies - Sliced onions, mushrooms, peppers, olives, corn or of your choice 
  7. Sprinkle some salt and pepper and sliced garlic 
  8. Finally top up some pieces of mozzarella cheese 
  9. Put this in the oven at 350 Degree for around 20-25 mins.

Enjoy Delicious home made pizza with some salad next to it!
