Veggie Supreme Pizza
Why circular pizza gets delivered in square boxes and served in triangle slices :) ... As a food for thought lets have a home made pizza. This is a no fail recipe have tried and tested many a times. In fact it works so well and results into a best crust without even having a pizza stone. Can be prepared in advance and freeze it too.. same results!!!
Ingredients
Pizza Dough
- 1 Cup all purpose flour (Maida)
- 1 Packet Active Yeast
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- Red Chili Flakes (optional)
- Fresh or dried Rosemary (optional)
- Fresh or dried Basil (optional)
- Oil 1 tbsp
- 3/4 Cup Water
Marinara Sauce
- 5-6 Tomatoes (San Marzano tomatoes from Italy are the best to use because of their deep red color if unavailable pick Red Ripe Roma tomatoes
- 2-3 Sliced Garlic Cloves
- 1 Big Red Onion
- 1 tsp Grated Ginger (Optional but this definitely adds flavor)
- Dried Basil
- Crushed Black Pepper
- Crushed Red Pepper
- Olive Oil 2-3 Tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Balsamic Vinegar (Optional)
- Red Wine (Optional)
Toppings
- Onions
- Button Mushrooms
- Peppers (Green, Red or Yellow) of your choice. I picked Green today
- 1 Sliced Garlic Clove
- Fresh Mozeralla Cheese or grated pizza cheese
Directions
Pizza Dough
- In a Luke warm water add 1 packet yeast and sugar. Mix it well and keep it aside. After approx 5 mins you will notice the liquid is milky and frothy
- Take a flour in a bowl, add salt and dried herbs.
- Make a well, add oil mix it well and then add water yeast milky liquid
- Mix it well and you will notice a dough is formed as a very sticky loose dough. And this is what we need
- Sprinkle some flour on a flat surface and on your hands and knead this sticky dough.
- Soon a ball is formed
- Put back this ball into a bowl, cover the bowl with a cloth or with a plastic wrap
- Keep the dough for proofing in a warm place. Best is to place it in an oven with light on for 2-3 hours
- After 2-3 hours you will notice dough is almost doubled in size
- Punch the dough to release any excess air
- knead with a light hand again with some flour and pizza dough is ready
Marinara Sauce
- In a stockpan, warm an olive oil
- Add chopped onion, minced garlic, ginger
- Once onion are translucent, add finely chopped tomatoes
- At this step you can add red wine and let it simmer
- Once sauce is in the thick consistency add dried herbs
- Add Salt, Crushed Black and Red Pepper as per your taste
- Store it in a airtight glass jar. Sauce will remain good in refrigerator and can be used for Pizza or Pasta
Pizza Baking
Method 1 (Top Pizza in the photo)
- Method 1 is first on the gas top and then transfer it to the oven
- Pre heat the oven
- Meanwhile shape a pizza dough shape as round with the help of your hands.
- Add little olive oil on the pan and put the round shape pizza base on the pan
- Let it warm up on slow flame, you will notice a change in color and some bubble. DO NOT Flip.
- At this point, spread good amount of Marinara Sauce
- Spread Veggies - Sliced onions, mushrooms, peppers, olives, corn or of your choice
- Sprinkle some salt and pepper and sliced garlic
- Finally top up some pieces of mozzarella cheese
- Put this in the oven at 350 Degree for around 20-25 mins.
Method 2 (Bottom one in the photo)
- Ideally invest on a pizza stone, warm the pizza stone in the oven and then bake pizza on pizza stone. This will give a very nice pizza crust
- Alternatively for the same results take an oven safe dish. I took my baking tray
- Sprinkle a spoon full of semolina (Suzzi)
- Put a pizza base on the bed of Semolina
- Spread good amount of Marinara Sauce
- Spread Veggies - Sliced onions, mushrooms, peppers, olives, corn or of your choice
- Sprinkle some salt and pepper and sliced garlic
- Finally top up some pieces of mozzarella cheese
- Put this in the oven at 350 Degree for around 20-25 mins.
